I would like to thank all of you who have come to this page to learn more about Fresh and Clean Restrooms. I feel that my company has a very interesting history and one that will install confidence in you as a customer.
The beginning
In the 1960’s my great uncle ran a hamburger stand in St Louis Missouri. Having greasy plates and utensils, he was calling a sewer and drain cleaner quite often. So he decides to learn how to do this on his own. Going to the library and reading other articles about plumbing and sewer cleaning, my great uncle purchases a sewer machine. After the word gets out to his restaurant friends, he becomes very busy cleaning lines. So after a few years goes by, a salesman stops and sells him some plastic portable restrooms. Very large bulky objects. After months of my aunt telling him he needs to do something with them or get them out of the yard, he starts renting them. The business goes well and after a while he decides to purchase a company that was operating with wooden portable restrooms. They were gray in color, had a red logo, and the tanks were 55 gallon drums with a hole cut in the side with a wooden seat. The company…..Johnny On The Spot. Uncle Clyde said that the owner had such a terrible name in the area, he had to wait about 5 years before he could use the name. When he did, it took off! In 1972 Johnny On The Spot purchased some of the first poly portable restrooms in the area. At one time, there were over 5,000 Johnny On The Spots in St Louis alone, not counting the offices of Tennessee Johnny, Tampa Johnny, Kansas City Johnny, Branson Johnny, and then along came a small office operated by his nephew and his wife- Belleview Missouri Johnny On The Spot.
Belleview Johnny On The Spot
My mother and father opened Johnny On The Spot December 2, 1986 after my father had lost his job as a mine foreman for 12 years at the Amax Lead Mine in Bixby Missouri. We started out with nine restrooms, our family pick up turned service truck, and my Mother’s car turned into a sales vehicle. Our first customer was Don Hafner, with Hafner Construction Company building Shipman Funeral Home in Bismarck Missouri. After years of working hard, we obtained the contract for the largest special event in the area, Jour De Fete, in Ste Genevieve Missouri. 50 portable restrooms with service on Saturday night and then having the restrooms off the street by mid Monday morning.
Our family operated company went on to provide service for the Jour De Fete for over 15 years in a row.
We then started providing sewer and drain service along with septic tank cleaning and became one of the only dealers of CCLS, a liquid septic additive, in Missouri.
In 1993 we received a call for restrooms and sanitation service in Ste Genevieve for the flooding Mississippi River. We deployed 50 restrooms, a camper for a command post / living quarters, and two service trucks and trailers to Ste Genevieve and remained there 24 hours a day from June till the waters started receding in October. During the entire flood of 1993 in the Ste Gen area, we only lost 3 restrooms due to the quickness of our men, and the help of MANY volunteers helping the people and community of Ste Gen.
In 2001 we provided 54 restrooms with 3 times per week service to SM Wilson Company, the contractor building the Bonne Terre Missouri State Prison.
